Hair Apparent: When Amazons Ruled
Summer on Fire: Sassoon's shade of Volcanic Cinebar
Summer on Fire: Sassoon's shade of Volcanic Cinebar
No sooner had I touched down in Ireland this week, when I spotted them: the ginger-haired natives. I didn’t exactly expect to see them. After all, natural red heads are on the extinction list, a genetic fate due to their recessive step on the evolutionary ladder.
Not that fashion ever minded Darwin. Fiery tones of red and orange, specifically a color christened “volcanic cinebar,” by the designers at Sassoon, top talk of hair color. “On the streets or in the salon, the reds available are unbelievable right now,” Kristopher Agbayani, the new creative director at the Beverly Hills Sassoon salon, told me Friday, before I left L.A. The whole palette, actually, is inspired by the intense hues and shine of precious stones and minerals--smoky quartz, lustrous opal, shimmering diamond with a trace of sapphire. And red—be it ruby, oxblood or this odd bedfellow of descriptors, volcanic cinebar.

Of course, the bold tints serve to better showcase what’s happening in cuts, which Kristopher admits, “is pretty dramatic. It goes back to the iconic Amazonian stars of the modeling heyday. Think of the images Linda Evangelista by Bruce Weber, Peter Lindberg, Herb Ritts. Hair is very glossy, very vibrantly colored and cut in razor sharp layers. The face is opened up, exposing the eyes, the cheekbones. It exudes luxury.”

And this all melds with the ’80s flashbacks going on in the rest of fashion, from banded mini dresses to neon-hued tights and stilettos. New wave is new again.
But the supermodel is only muse. There’s a graphic, geometric shape to suit every face, a glossy, bright color for every complexion, promises Kristopher. Even those who can’t part with their long locks or find some of the slashed edges too severe can opt for softer pieces. “It’s all about the geometry and precision at even longer lengths,” he notes. “It’s energetic, confident. Modern women don’t need to hide behind the curtain of hair.”

Was he alluding to my maxed-out mane, which I’ve insisted on coloring a single shade of midnight for way too long? My once-signature electric blue streak and cropped ’do may be a thing of the past. But these new looks are something to get my head around as we cruise across this emerald land.

Hey Rose, how's it going. Remember me and you're like who and I'm like Sada's husband. Maybe Sada is easier to remember, from Action Sports, with Neil and Paul and John Stoffer. I just found Neil and saw you as a friend so thought I'd say hi. We saw your book down here in Oz (where we live now) and it was totally awesome. Hope you're well, Cya.

just wanted to throw an eye at you to see how you do and talk about

THE WAY OF LOVE WITH YOU (universal content design ) &

(besides i really like thoses pieces)

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels,
but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging
cymbal.

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all
mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith,
so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body
to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast;
it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its
own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not
rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things,
endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they
will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for
knowledge, it will pass away.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the
perfect comes, the partial will pass away.

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a
child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man,
I gave up childish ways.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face.
Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have
been fully known.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.

Rose, any idea who is doing Rick's PR? I have the usual suspects in the Dbase. Please dash me an email with the right contact this round. I think he's supremely talented. So far, he's the most under rated US designer. He's the real deal!
