While the foam seat resembling a male torso from the waist to thighs is just silly, much of the products unveiled at the Conran store’s red-themed Roja party Friday night were everything good design should be—functional and irresistible. There was plenty of that at the two-story shop, part of design guru Terence Conran’s compact yet impactful chain. This space at 59th street, tucked under the bridge, is a great spot, with the glass box at street level and an expanse under ground.
Roja was among the kick-off events surrounding this weekend’s ICFF design show in Gotham. Among the red merch on show, and particularly covetable, was Jaime Hayón’s Showtime chair, with its glossy outer shell and tuck-and-roll upholstery in the same hot red. The Barcelona designer has become quite a rock star in the last year (we’ve been carrying his porcelain for Bosa for a long while), in part because he embodies the surrealist wit inherent in Spanish creativity. Luis Eslava rendered lamp shades and curtain dividers of a zillion basic Velcro straps, which take on an entirely new life. On a more accessible note, there was the new collection of Nani Marquina's rugs, in red, of course.
As for the butt seats, called Cul is Cool, they are inspired by Michelangelo’s David according to designers Ramón Úbeda and Otto Canalda of the firm ABR. The not to Spain didn’t stop with the showcased furnishings. There was an endless pour of fino and trays of tapas, which were actually delicious. It’s funny how the tide has changed so fast, finally, in terms of offering truly authentic foods from Spain. I can’t get enough of the proliferation of Spanish restaurants in New York. Now if their L.A. counterparts could only get hooked up with the same distributors…

Hey Rose, how's it going. Remember me and you're like who and I'm like Sada's husband. Maybe Sada is easier to remember, from Action Sports, with Neil and Paul and John Stoffer. I just found Neil and saw you as a friend so thought I'd say hi. We saw your book down here in Oz (where we live now) and it was totally awesome. Hope you're well, Cya.
just wanted to throw an eye at you to see how you do and talk about
THE WAY OF LOVE WITH YOU (universal content design ) &
(besides i really like thoses pieces)
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways.
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Wow! Roger Lloyd Pack "Owen" from the Vicar of Dibley and Andy could be brothers, or at least each others Doppelgänger. Fantastic photos. Thanks for sharing these amazing images.
Rose, any idea who is doing Rick's PR? I have the usual suspects in the Dbase. Please dash me an email with the right contact this round. I think he's supremely talented. So far, he's the most under rated US designer. He's the real deal!
